QPO Presents: Tchaikovsky's Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture is an orchestral concert by the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Nader Abbasi. The programme brings together two works by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and a symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich.
The concert opens with the Polonaise from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Op. 24. It is followed by Romeo and Juliet: Fantasy Overture, Tchaikovsky’s musical interpretation of Shakespeare’s tragic lovers.
After the interval, the orchestra performs Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, Op. 54. The symphony begins with an introspective opening movement before moving into two more energetic and sharply characterised movements.
