Our Common Currents (Hiyna nansabu m`an) brings together sculpture, video, digital work and textiles to explore water’s place in human life. Its themes connect cultural practices and leisure with farming, industry and the environments between land and sea.
Organised by Qatar Museums and curated by Lina Patmali, the exhibition features 12 international artists. It is scheduled for 22 November 2026 to 30 April 2027 at Katara QM Gallery, Doha.
Four new commissions
The commissions offer distinct ways into the subject, from Qatar’s landscapes to communities around Kazakhstan’s Lake Balkhash:
- Taloi Havini: a sculptural installation created for the site, with a courtyard garden designed by conservation ecologist Dr. Aspa D. Chatziefthimiou. Native desert and mangrove plants evoke Qatar’s land and shore.
- Latent Community: an environment drawing on rocky deserts, dunes, natural depressions and intertidal zones to consider ecosystems between desert and sea.
- Miguel Fernández de Castro: a video connecting the Arabian horse, desalination and salt through the idea of purity.
- Artcom Platform: an interactive digital and textile installation inspired by Lake Balkhash and its urban and nomadic communities.
Works from artists and collections
The exhibition also includes loans from Nadia Belerique, Basim Magdy and Aziz Motawa, alongside Joseph Ntensibe’s work from the ARAK Collection. Works by KABINDA, Olafur Eliasson, Barbara Chase-Riboud and Lala Rukh come from the Art Mill Museum Collection.
This mix may suit visitors interested in contemporary art, environmental themes or how artists connect local landscapes with experiences elsewhere.
