Again Live Performance explores South African and Palestinian histories of struggle for freedom and self-determination. Presented by Qatar Museums in association with Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, this world premiere brings Isango Ensemble’s South African performers together with Palestinian testimony in a work of musical theatre.
The stories behind the performance
Directed by Mark Dornford-May and developed from an original idea by writer and historian Tariq Ali, Again draws on Palestinian author Sondos Sabra’s writings. These include new material and published diaries describing her experience of living under occupation in Gaza. The performers also contribute their own lived histories.
Music, rhythm and spoken testimony connect stories from Gaza, Cape Town and County Durham. The production considers solidarity, memory and resilience across these distinct places and experiences. Its combination of historical themes and personal accounts may interest visitors looking for theatre that engages with political and social questions.
